Not our favorite restaurant find in Crystal River but pretty close. It was recommended by the folks at River Ventures where we had just done a manatee tour. I had the grouper (blackened) sandwich which came with plenty of fresh fish and was simply served on a hamburger bun with lettuce, tomato and onion. I asked for mayo. Bf had the fried shrimp that was lightly floured and also with cornmeal. We both had the jambalaya as our side. It was all pretty good. We also had the crab balls as our appetizer and it was kind of like a crabcake in a sphere shape rather than a patty. Service was fast and friendly. We were rushing to get to our next excursion (kayaking) and this was a quick and satisfying lunch.

Great lunch!! Red beans and rice are delicious... Especially with the grilled gator sausage! Blackened grouper sandwich was very tasty. Will definitely be back! Good and friendly service too!

Random hole in the mall that was suggested to us after our manatee tour. The rice wasn't anything to brag about, but the meat in the chicken and gator sausage jambalaya was seasoned perfectly. The gator sausage po'boy was good, just a hint too much mustard.

Don't be deceived by the fact that you have to walk through a skeezy mall that houses a KMart to get to this restaurant. Although the seating is very limited, it's a pretty comfortable little place. The food is exceptional! Make sure to try the fried green tomatoes and the hush puppies. All of the seafood was caught hours before it was made for us and you could definitely tell. The next time we come up to Crystal River we will for sure be returning to this little gem! Also the staff is very friendly and humorous!

Yes the top rated restaurant in Crystal River is inside a mall. You enter by KMart but we still had trouble finding it. We came across the food court entrance and thought WHAT? Finally we found the actual place! Service was over the top! Staff was extremely friendly, responsive and just great! Jimmy ( who wasn't even our waiter) showed us some magic tricks. The wine is only $4 a glass. The house salad was very good. We each had the two different gumbos. Mine was the chicken and sausage. Every bite had sausage but it was thicker than I have had before. We also had the grilled shrimp excellent. We ordered the beignets for desert and we're disappointed in them but managed to not leave a bite. They were not as light as I have had other places. We decided to give this place a try while vacationing in the area. A lot of times we find that restaurants that are rated really high, don't live up to the hype. This place definately does. It was so good the first day we ate here, that we came back the next day. Both meals were fantastic. It is not usual to find good cajun food outside of Louisana, but this place deleivers. The food here was as good as any that we have gotten in Louisana. It is a small place located in a small mall, but don't let that stop you. The food is worth the effort to search this place out.

"This Supreme Flounder, it says first time served in America. Is that true?" Elaine, Seinfeld. Was looking for seafood, after all we're in Crystal River, Florida RIGHT? Between a few local recommendations, Trip Advisor & Yelp! I narrowed it down to 3 spots. Two were "on the water" about a 25 min drive, the other 5 min. away, but in a "mall". Almost dismissed the mall spot right off the bat, had my brother-in-law not said to check it out 1st and WALK if we didn't like what we saw. In a word, WOW. Yep, slammin' seafood in a mall food court, in old Florida. Da Grub: Being from the Bay Area in California, by way of Oahu, Hawaii - I consider my seafood palette well versed. RUN, DON'T WALK here if within an hour drive. Started with Crab Balls (menu), kind of like the aftermath of a hush puppy and blue crab encounter on a Saturday night, stuffed w/ lump crab, crunchy exterior served w/ a nice remoulade. Also a plate of blue crab claws (special) lightly breaded, very tender. I wanted 2nd order, it was gone in a flash! I did the grilled grouper, wife did the Shrimp & Gritz, Kai did a full pound of Sellers Shrimp (garlic, Cajun, butter....mmmmmm!) Others had hard shell blue crab, fried shrimp & Po'Boy, & blackened grouper. They add a Louisiana twist, adding crawfish boil, sides of gumbo, jambalaya, standout was the fried catfish, piled with two crab cakes, then topped w/ a crawfish etouffee $20 bucks of heaven! Beer & wine only. Ended w/ beignets. Menu is DEEP, but it was ALL so fresh and well executed. Guys walking around w/ catch of the day, sporting it to customers before preparing it. Did I mention this spot is in a mall food court? NICE! Da service: Attentive but not over done. Super friendly, with owner checking on things. We ordered up quite a bit of grub so with our crab claw & crab ball appetizers, they brought out an off menu whole lightly breaded 2-3 lb. grouper on the house for us to "snack on". Apparently caught that morning, owner didn't have enough to make it a special so it was ours...WHAT?! That was sweeeeet!!! I was grubbin the head & cheeks while the rest of the crew demolished the rest. No sauce or anything, just fresh grouper pinched off a bite at a time. The owner kept us entertained with magic through our meal - he & his team made it a memorable moment. Da Spot: Everything initially screams "turn around, an look elsewhere". The single level mall & parking lot look seldom used, not many folks around. Walk past Kmart into the food court an it's clean & bright, with typical fare. Then off to the left, Seller's counter, where the owner is filleting a huge grouper (+1) while we lookup at the billboard menu above us... Dude said "if you're not in a hurry, come around back!" They have a little half hidden pub/cafe and seated 7 of us quickly. It's a New Orleans pub atmosphere, even got BEADS and I didn't have to flash anyone!! Authentically nice folks, seafood just off the hook, and New Orleans flair. Absolute hidden jewel in Crystal River, best meal of the trip!

Yum! Gator bites were tasty and the gumbo is the best ever. The shrimp and grits was also fantastic. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and the service was super friendly. It is tricky to find as stated in other reviews. Just go to the center of the mall and look for their sign. The entrance to the cafe is near the movie theatre.

No offense to Crystal River, I actually did most of my high school years here. I have no idea what happened to this mall, but it's not much of a mall anymore. This has nothing to do with Seafood Seller, however, so I digress. I had heard good things about his place, and as it was a halfway point in meeting someone, I chose it for a late lunch. Yes...it's in a mall, but it's currently the best thing in the mall. I started with a fried pickle appetizer, and I chose the grouper dinner for my main course. I also tossed in a side of scallops, and the seafood gumbo. I chose the jambalaya and hush puppies as my sides. The mediocre: The service wasn't horrible, but I also found myself waiting for refills. The blackened grouper was not flaky, fall apart with your fork. It was just okay, and I was a bit let down as seafood is what they are supposed to excel at. The scallops were also just okay, not the worst I've ever had, but far from the best. The bad: The jambalaya. No spice, no wow factor, something I would never order here again. The good: The seafood gumbo was tasty, and I also tried the wife's chicken and sausage gumbo. Both were very good, I would just ask that they add an option to make them mild, medium, or hot, as neither had any spice factor. The award goes to: The hush puppies. They may be the best hush puppies that I've ever had, seriously outstanding. I contacted my friend that referred me to this place, and told him that I agreed with his hush puppy assessment, but was let down by the seafood. He replied that he did not try the seafood, that he went with the gator sausage. I would come back to try the gator sausage and some more hush puppies. This is a 3.5 for me, without the hush puppy awesomeness, it would not get the nod for a four.

Go for the fish. They excel at fish. Don't bother with the bagged greens and bagged cheese salad. I wanted to splurge and really enjoy the pecan pie. It tasted and felt like they microwaved it. Pedestrian salad and disappointing dessert were not good ways to begin or end. They could do better. The grouper rocked though.

Seafood Seller is just PRETTY good. I feel like most of these reviews are from people either native to Citrus County, or have been eating at terrible restaurants like Charlie's on vacation and are wearing rose colored glasses. It isn't like Seafood Seller is bad - it is definitely solid food. But it is far from amazing, and the long wait and slow service doesn't do a whole lot to help. To their credit, the owner is extremely friendly and his tableside magic tricks are hilarious. That makes the food waiting time go by a little more pleasantly. For a place that prides itself so much on fresh seafood, though, it just doesn't taste THAT much different than eating frozen seafood in a bar. Compared to the rest of Crystal River, it is royalty. But it would be nowhere as popular as it is in a real metropolitan location.

The worst service ever. Not to mention the Yankee Clam Chowder. I haven't been this disappointed by both service and quality in a long time. The chowder took so long to prepare I asked for it to go. I got home and tried my chowder and I was sorely disappointed. No clam nor anything even remotely seafoody. And it was almost $10.00!!!! Buyer be ware!

Several people including a boy I know in Inverness who has uncommonly high standards for--well, for everything--had raved about Seafood Seller and then I read the Yelp reviews and decided I had to try it right away. I've been an ardent fan of Creole and Cajun cuisines since high school--these were the first cuisines I made any serious attempt to cook myself and I learned all I could about them, yet they are rarely done anywhere close to right outside of Louisiana and Creole is nearly forgotten with everything that hails from New Orleans being labeled "Cajun" which is not only incorrect but actually most traditional New Orleans dishes are Creole and not Cajun, anyways. Seafood Seller is indeed located in Crystal River's forlorn shopping mall and one side of the business faces out into the food court like any other mall food court eatery but sells po' boys and other quick dishes plus fresh fish as a fish market would--this is the "seller" part of the outfit. If you walk around the back of the food court though you'll find a doorway leading into a small restaurant space which is the "café" portion of the business. The kitchen is in between the two ends of things and effectively, what happened was they rented two parcels and tore down a wall so they can have both a sit-down restaurant and the food court order-at-the-counter side. The café portion is small and has a slightly run-down yet New Orleans festive atmosphere. They have a TV and had Shark Week on so I can't really complain at any rate. Now, on to the food. I had the crawfish étouffée which came with a generous amount of crawfish which seemed very plump and fresh over a bed of white rice with three pieces of French bread but without any other side dishes. This was $15 which was a fair price for the size of the dish and the quality and preparation were utterly perfect. It was exactly as crawfish étouffée should be made. That French bread however was unremarkable and borderline stale. I also had a praline for dessert: this was $3 for one fairly large pecan praline candy. The taste of it was exactly like you'd find in New Orleans, for sure, but too many pecans. I mean, so many it was like eating a handful of candy-coated nuts which it should not be nor should a praline cost this much. Make them small and serve them two to an order, perhaps, because a big piece of candy isn't something you cut in half to take home for later yet I left about a fourth of it: It was too much as one piece but also too expensive for what it was. They need to work on this aspect of things. All other desserts--bourbon pecan pie, bread pudding, beignets, and several others--are also homemade and cost $6 each, which for a glorified po' boy shack no matter the quality is pushing things, especially in Crystal River. I'm not cheap, but I did feel like despite how good things are here the prices are too high on a variety of items. Look at the prices in neighboring Inverness at Deco Café for their weekend dinner items, which is far more of a fine dining restaurant and yet are less-expensive. The service was fine and prompt to refill my ice tea. No complaints there. And once again, the quality is very high and the recipes are spot-on; the owner is from Louisiana and clearly knows what he's doing. Also, along with the movie theatre and a few other businesses this is something unique to draw people into a mall that lost two anchors a year ago and seemed head to an early grave, so that's a plus. The mall, despite its vacancies, was pretty busy on a Friday night actually and clearly Seafood Seller contributes to that. I would certainly come back and would recommend it to anyone for Louisiana-style cooking, but they need to re-evaluate the dessert pricing and also improve their French bread.

We had a party of 9 on a Tuesday night and we arrived around 7:45pm. We did call before we came and even though they closed at 8pm, they encouraged us to come anyway. It's a little sketchy walking through a mall to get to this gem but it was totally worth it. Two people in our party arrived around 7:30pm to grab a table and between them arriving and the rest of us arriving the gator bites became available to order. That's exactly how fresh they were! By far the best seafood I've ever eaten and I've lived in Florida my entire life. The staff was super friendly and funny. We ended up going back on Thursday night so our other friends could eat there too. Will definitely return when we are back in the area. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!

All of the posts on this are right. If I hadn't read them I would never have tried this restaurant. And I would have missed an awesome meal! You have to walk inside a very unprepossessing mall, find the food court (yes, the food court!), find the counter where Sellers actually sells seafood, but don't stop there - go around to the back of it (across from the movie theater) to find the actual restaurant. We had a late lunch so it was not crowded at all and service was very friendly and efficient. I had a po'boy with blackened shrimp together with a side of red beans and rice - yum!!!! My daughter had a lobster bisque with A Cajun twist and fries also with a bit of Cajun flavoring. And we finished with some key lime pie. Everything was absolutely delicious! Sellers may be hard to find but its well worth the search!

Great seafood, warm friendly staff, unbelievably hard to find location. This must be the best place to eat in Crystal River with fresh perfectly cooked fish, if you can find it. To get there you have to go to the mall and enter at the K-Mart entrance, than wander around generally turning left until the small restaurant appears on the right side of the corridor.

Spent my whole life in south Louisiana. Die hard New Orleans Saints fan and season ticket holder so It was a boost of spirit to see the Saints memorabilia. With that said, this was the best crawfish étouffée I have eaten outside of south La. The seafood gumbo was great. By far, the best meal I have eaten in Central Florida. Do not let the location fool you. The food is excellent. Go around back to the sit down side.

I went to the mall the other day with my mom and daughter and we stopped to have lunch. The clam chowder was outstanding! So were the po boys and hush puppies. The shrimp were so fresh and delicious! The oysters were delicious as well. My daughter had a cheeseburger that we ordered medium. It came very rare. , so we gave it back to the guy working at the counter to cook it more; and he put the cheese side down on the griddle (really?) and burned the cheese so the rest of the burger was not edible. Over all it's a great place for great seafood to eat there or to buy from the case to take home. We will be back, but won't be ordering any cheeseburgers.

I'm giving this place 5 stars. We had snorkeled with the Manatees and were really hungry. Our Captain, Marty, recommended this place so we went and we were so glad we did. They food was sooooooo good and the staff was soooooo nice. It's in a mall but behind the counter around the back is a little hidden restaurant and it's a fun place with nice people who service great food.

If you don't eat here when you drive past the Crystal River Mall, you are cheating yourself out of some damn good food! Every single menu item that we ordered was insanely good. I had the shrimp and grits with andouille sausage and I'm telling you it was INSANE. The place is pretty small and as the first group there after opening, the tables filled up quickly. Seriously. Go. We had a difficult time finding this place because both Google Maps and Apple Maps on my iPhone showed a different location, therefore you will probably be better off searching for the "Crystal River Mall" rather than "Seafood Seller & Cafe". The restaurant is actually located in the food court within Crystal River Mall. Although this place looked deserted on a New Year's Eve, we enjoyed the Cajun dishes. We tried the Gumbo and the Yankee Chowder (touch of Cajun on the New England Chowder) soups, the Grouper Sandwich and the Shrimp Po'Boy, as well as the Fried Crawfish and the Blackened Scallop. They were all good. We were a little surprised by the volume of the Jambalaya; the portion was very small and looked like a side dish. Since this place is in a mall and not open for dinner, it is probably a good place to eat after your "Swim with Manatee" tour or kayak trip. :)

Blackened Maui tacos were excellent. Red beans and rice best I've had. Great little place with fresh steamed old bay shrimp and steamed clams. Reasonably priced. Waitress extremely helpful and upbeat. Will be a regular customer. Wish I'd saved room for their homemade desserts. They sound delicious as well.

Best find!!!! Went with our friends and who would have thought you would find a place like this in the mall. The food is really fresh and great tasting. The owner and staff are really friendly and make you feel at home. Don't miss this place if you are in the Crystal River area.

Have always enjoyed our visits here. Tonight was NOT good-the service was lacking and the food not good. Although this seems to be contrary to other reviews, this was how it was. Shrimp overrcooked, grilled grouper raw in the middle, crabmeat stuffing mostly filler, etc. The owner was quite apathetic, the meal expensive-no one really seemed to care. We will not go back.

This was our very first visit after reading several reviews. So let's get started on our experience. Okay, so the food is absolutely wonderful! I mean, you can't find any better seafood in citrus County versus what you can find in this little place located inside the mall. That being said, there is still a discrepancy or two that need addressing. Our server, although very kind and polite and even informative at times, still left a lot to be desired. I still left her a good tip because not everything was her fault. However, she could've done a whole lot better. Let me give you a couple of examples. My drink was almost empty on three separate occasions and approximately 10 minutes apart my server had told me she was going to fill my drink. Obviously, that never happened. So when my glass was completely empty and I was perishing for something to drink I took my glass up to the front and had someone fill it up for me. The young man the filled my drink was kind and courteous and polite which I was grateful for. However, when I sat down he suddenly comes to my table behind me with two more full drinks. I'm saying to myself are you kidding me? Did you really just bring 2 more drinks to my table simply because I asked you to fill an empty glass? Did I irritate you that much because my drink was empty? Then, here comes the kicker. My server suddenly shows up with a full drink as well and I actually say out loud to her are you kidding me you're really going to bring me another drink when I have 3 already sitting here? To which she smiled and set the drink on the table anyway and walked off. So now I have four full drinks sitting there. Totally uncalled for and really made me feel like I had done them some kind of injustice simply because I wanted something to drink. This is only one example and there are more but I believe you get the jist of what happened by now. Still... We will definitely be back because the food is just that good. However, we may bring your own drinks so that the servers don't get angry at us for wanting a refill. Therefore, we do recommend this place for eating because it is great food as I have said over and over again. They just need different waitstaff is all.

This food here is outstanding! Its definite not the quality I'd expect to get in the mall. I've eaten here several times and its always great! The staff is very friendly. I've seen inside the kitchen and I can honestly say it is the cleanest restaurant kitchen I've ever seen! Love this place!

Stop. Eat here. We almost turned around when we saw it was located in the food court of the local (somewhat depressing) mall. But walk around the corner and discover this family restaurant. This place served the best fish I ate in two weeks in Florida. Jimmy brought out the grouper I ordered. It doesn't get any fresher than this. I ordered it blackened and with a squeeze of lemon. It was divine perfection. I got the Cajun corn and jambalaya sides. I finished every single bite. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits which were topped with chicken/alligator sausage in addition to delicious shrimp. OMG! I was sad I didn't order it until I had another bite of my grouper, and I knew I had made the right choice. Factor in Jimmy doing really, pretty great magic tricks for the kids in the restaurant, and bringing out whole grouper to demonstrate why fresh is superior to frozen, and this local place for great seafood becomes a local gem. Really - stop and eat here.

This place was recommended to us by locals and it sure lives up to its reputation. The seafood is as fresh as it gets and the waitress was one of the nicest I have ever met! One chef walks around the restaurant doing magic tricks. Bottom line - superb restaurant. It is difficult to find though. Look for the the Office Max/Kmart mall on Rt19. It's in the middle of the mall.

Good food and great service. Love the grouper. The owner goes out of his way to make sure you leave happy. My daughter tried a new dish that she never had before, when it came it wasn't to her liking, not that there was anything wrong with the food, just not for her. The owner came over and insisted on making her something else that she would like and genuinely cared that she had a good experience. The only reason I am not giving a 5 star is for the location. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Excellent seafood with a Cajun flair. A mix of cajun and some blues music was a plus. The homemade red beans and rice was delicious. I recommend the blue crab balls too- so yummy. A little majic at the table too from one of the owners was fun. Great service that's prompt and friendly. This restaurant is clean.

Unbelievable seafood! New Orleans best. Crawfish, étouffée, catfish, fried pickles.... Fabulous! In the Crystal River Mall. Separate dining area. Laura, Brian and Jimmy are wonderful. Ask Jimmy to do some magic tricks!

Excellent!! Rachel had great suggestions for us, the jumbalaya was amazing!! The blackened grouper was perfect, seafood gumbo tasted great. All the seafood was incredibly fresh. The hush puppies were moist instead of like hockey pucks at other places. Don't let the mall scare you, you have got to try this restaurant for delicious seafood and Cajun/creole food.

This was a great stop. Food was excellent and in an unexpected place ( the food court of the mall). Would highly recommended.
